Fair Share Fee Notice 2017 – 2018

To all employees in the bargaining unit represented by the YSU-OEA:

The labor agreement between the Employer and the Association requires all members of the bargaining unit to become and remain members of the Association or to pay a fair share fee to the Association.  If you do not voluntarily join the Association, you must pay the fair share fee.

The amount of the fair share fee for the 2017-2018 school year is $730.00, and if paid by payroll deduction, the first deduction will occur in the January 15th, 2018, semi-monthly pay.

The Association, through its affiliate organization the Ohio Education Association, has adopted a procedure to provide an advance reduction of a portion of the fair share fee to feepayers who timely object.  Fair share fee payers will be notified by the Ohio Education Association of how the fair share fee was calculated and be provided with a copy of the internal rebate procedure around December 15.The Association, through its parent organization, the Ohio Education Association, has adopted a procedure to provide an advance reduction of a portion of the fair share fee to fee payers who timely object.  Fair share fee payers will be notified by the Ohio Education Association of how the fair share fee was calculated and be provided with a copy of the internal rebate procedure around December 15th.

YSU OEA PRESS RELEASE
10/22/14

At a special Chapter meeting held today, the YSU-OEA faculty voted to support an authorization to strike.

In another matter, the faculty also voted to express no confidence in the YSU Board of Trustees and the YSU Administration.  As YSU-OEA president, I would like to emphasize that this vote was called for due to actions, or the lack thereof, taken by the Board and the Administration.   Despite the best efforts of our union leaders and negotiators to resolve conflict and keep an open and transparent line of communication with this Administration and with members of the Board, we have been unable to correct issues and address concerns; and faculty morale continues to decline.  This stance by no means indicates unwillingness on the part of the YSU-OEA to work collaboratively with the Administration or with the Board in the future.  However, our members made great sacrifices in the last contract in order to give the University an opportunity to get its financial house in order.  YSU-OEA is now being asked to make even greater sacrifices, even though there has been no noticeable change in the Administration’s spending habits since the last contract.  The Board and the Administration have shown little respect for our long tradition of shared governance. The dedicated members of the YSU-OEA take great pride in the quality of our positive involvement within the community, our research, and most importantly, the educational services we provide to our students.

RESOLUTION OF NO CONFIDENCE

Whereas the faculty agreed to a heavily concessionary contract in the last negotiations; and

Whereas the Board of Trustees has continued to ask for deep concessions from faculty while increasing spending in areas of the university not related to teaching and learning and;

Whereas the Board of Trustees and Administration have violated the trust of the university community in their handling of healthcare funds and;

Whereas the Board of Trustees and the Administration have failed to effectively manage the university’s finances and;

Whereas the Board of Trustees and the Administration have failed to interact with faculty in the spirit of collaboration, cooperation, and transparency and;

Whereas the Board of Trustees and the Administration have demonstrated a lack of respect for faculty;

Therefore be it resolved that the faculty of Youngstown State University have no confidence in the leadership of the Board of Trustees and Administration; and

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution shall be provided to local and statewide media, to the Governor, and to the Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of YSU OEA,

Dr. Annette M. Burden
President, YSU-OEA
